Case submission guidelines:

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE POWERPOINT TEMPLATE- Meaning do not change the colors or background of the template.  The case specific powerpoint templates are provided below.

Candidates for the ABOI/ID Diplomate examination must submit 8 case reports for the Part II oral examination.  The candidate must provide surgical and or restorative treatment information for each of the cases submitted.  Each case must be from a different patient and must be restored and functional (final prosthesis) for a minimum of one (1) year at the time of case submission. 

Case reports are due to the ABOI/ID headquarters on the date specified by the board each year.  The applicant is responsible for insuring that the case reports arrive on or before the specified date.  The submitted reports become the property of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry and will not be returned.

Case Reports:

  • You will be asked to develop narratives for your cases, the Board asks that they are clear and concise with little  extraneous information.
  • Do not include your name, practice name and address on any documentation provided.
  • Patient names should not be shown on any documenation provided.
  • ALL radiographs and photographs must be clearly dated and labeled with accurate dates.
  • If a CT scan is submitted for a case, a panoramic view and representative slices of the scan may be submitted.  CT scans are not required.

The case has not been made available to another applicant for listing or use in the ABOI/ID certification application or examination.

Leave corresponding dates on treatment documentation so that the case can be reviewed in the chronological order of events.

Required Radiographs:

  • Pre-Op(s)
  • Post Surgical(s)
  • Post Prosthetic(s)
  • Image with the final restoration(s) in function for a minimum of one (1) year

CT scans are admissible

Required Photographs:

  • Occlusal view of maxillary arch
  • Occlusal view of mandibular arch
  • Frontal view in maximum intercuspation position (MIP)
  • Left side in MIP
  • Right side in MIP

For cases that involve an implant supported / retained removable prostheses:

  • Occlusal views of all implant attachment mechanisms (intra-oral)
  • Views of tissue surface areas of the removable prostheses

 Powerpoint Case Submission Templates:

- Case 1- Full arch removable implant overdenture with two (2) or more implants with a minimum diameter of 3.25mm

-Case 2- Edentulous posterior maxilla with compromised vertical height (less than 5mm) requiring at least 3mm of sinus augmentation and two (2) or more implants with a minimum diameter of 3.25mm

-Case 3- Anterior maxilla with implant support that includes one (1) or more root form implants with a minimum diameter of 3.0mm

-Case 4- Extraction with immediate implant placement or extractin with ridge preservation and delayed implant placement with a minimum diameter of 3.0mm

-Case 5- Edentulous mandible with implant support that includes four (4) or more root form implants with a diameter of 3.25mm

-Case 6- A posterior quadrant in a partially edentulous mandible or maxilla with implant support that included two (2) or more root form implants with a minimum diameter of 3.25mm

-Case 7- Case showing the management of a width deficient boney ridge (less than 3mm) requiring augmentation or manipulation (excluding ridge reduction) and the placement of two (2) or more root form implants with a minimum diameter of 3.0mm

-Cases 8 Case to be determined by the applicant.  Cannot be a single tooth implant case
