Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
ABOI/ID Diplomates who hold time-limited certificates are required to participate in Maintenance of Certification (MOC).
MOC ensures that Diplomates remain current in implant dentistry and continue to meet the standards established by the Board.
- Diplomates certified in 2008 or later must complete MOC on an eight-year cycle.
- Diplomates who were certified prior to 2008 hold lifetime certificates and are not required to complete MOC.
What MOC includes
Time-limited Diplomates must complete the following during each eight-year cycle:
1. Continuing Education (CE)
- Diplomates must complete 160 hours of continuing education related to implant dentistry during each 8-year MOC cycle.
- CE must reflect current knowledge, best practices, and developments in implant dentistry.
2. MOC Examination
- Diplomates complete a multiple-choice examination as part of the MOC process.
- The exam evaluates current, evidence-based knowledge in implant dentistry.
- The MOC exam is offered on a cycle determined by ABOI/ID.
3. Attestation & Fees
- Diplomates will need to submit a signed attestation statement, verifying the completion of 160 continuing education (CE) hours over the past eight years.
- A MOC fee of $250.00 is required to maintain certification.
How to prepare for MOC
Time-limited Diplomates can stay on track by:
- Tracking CE hours throughout the eight-year cycle
